There is just something about Fall that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's the crisp, cool air; the turning of leaves; and the sleepy nature of the world as it moves from Summer's heat into a cooler time of rest. It's my favorite time of year.
As Autumn cools the temperatures, I start to get cravings for all my Fall favorite meals. Comfort foods rule the day for me in Autumn. I break out my great grandmother's dutch oven that's been passed down for generations to make my famous Provencal Lemon Garlic Chicken, or a hearty pot of my old school Texas chili. It's a time of year when I crave soups, Irish stew, and my ever-changing kitchen sink meatloaf.
As the holidays grow closer, my husband and boys start making weekly requests for home-made cookies, gingerbread pancakes, and other sweet treats. They can't wait until I start making artisan breads like my brioche buns, Irish soda bread or my wild yeast sourdough loaves. It's the time of year when my inner baker shines. My relatives request my pecan whiskey tarts or my bourbon vanilla pumpkin pie for holiday gatherings. It's a time for hot cocoa with gourmet marshmallows and flavored liqueurs, or mulled cider with fresh cinnamon sticks.
My husband and I go in search for traditional German gingerbread, old-fashioned honey candy corn and French nougat this time of year too. We have quite the lengthy bucket list of favorite foods during the season. What's on your foodie bucket list for Autumn?
